The 2024 Rocky Mountain Showdown is on tap for Saturday when Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes (1-1) travel to Canvas Stadium to take on Jay Norvell and the Colorado State Rams (1-1). The Buffs have won six straight in the series, and hold a 68-22-2 edge in the all-time series. Coach Prime and CU are coming off a 28-10 loss to Nebraska in Week 2, and rank dead last in the country in rushing offense with an average of 37.5 yards per game on the ground. The Rams are coming off a 38-17 win over Northern Colorado, but were blown out by Texas 52-0 in their season opener. Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter aim to get their Heisman Trophy campaigns back on track against their in-state rivals. Safety Shilo Sanders (forearm) is out for the Buffs. The game will be televised live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+ .

Colorado has one of the fastest groups of wide receivers in the country. Travis Hunter rightfully gets a lot of the attention, and enters Saturday with 17 catches for 242 yards and three touchdowns. Right behind Hunter, the Buffs have the trio of Jimmy Horn Jr. , Will Sheppard and LaJohntay Wester , who all have game-breaking ability.
The Buffs also have an advantage at the quarterback position. Senior Shedeur Sanders remains one of the top signal callers in the country, and when he his protection holds up he has the ability to light up the scoreboard. In the 2023 Rocky Mountain Showdown, Sanders threw for 348 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. See which team to pick here .
Why Colorado State can cover
The Rams have home-field advantage on their side. This is the biggest game in the brief history of Canvas Stadium, and will be the first playing of the Rocky Mountain Showdown in Fort Collins since 1996. In 2023, the Rams were 28-point underdogs and nearly pulled off the upset at Folsom Field.
CSU has a rising star at the running back position in freshman Justin Marshall . In the Rams' season opening loss to No. 2 Texas, Marshall rushed for 106 yards on 25 carries. For the season he has 173 yards on 35 carries (4.9 yards per carry), and the Buffs have had issues defending the run, allowing 153 rushing yards per game thus far. See which team to pick here .
