2024 Sanderson Farms Championship odds, picks: Surprising predictions from golf model that's called 13 majors
By CBS Sports Staff,
If Luke List finishes on top of the leaderboard this week at the 2024 Sanderson Farms Championship, he'll become the first golfer since Dwight Nevil (1973-74) to win this event in back-to-back years. List will have to stave off several serious contenders if he wants to rewrite the history books. Mackenzie Hughes, Matt Kuchar, Rickie Fowler and Gary Woodland are among the experienced players looking to dethrone List and win the Sanderson Farms Championship 2024. Play gets underway from the Country Club of Jackson on Thursday, Oct. 3.
Hughes enters this week's event as the 22-1 favorite according to the latest 2024 Sanderson Farms Championship odds. He's followed by Keith Mitchell (25-1), Seamus Power (28-1), Ben Griffin (28-1) and Maverick McNealy (28-1) on the PGA odds board, while List is a 55-1 longshot to repeat. Before locking in your 2024 Sanderson Farms Championship picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine .
SportsLine's proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model is up more than $9,500 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.
This same model has also nailed a whopping 13 majors entering the weekend, including the 2024 Masters -- its third Masters in a row -- and this year's PGA Championship and U.S. Open. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.
One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2024 Sanderson Farms Championship: Mackenzie Hughes (22-1), a two-time PGA Tour champion and the odds-on favorite, stumbles this week and barely cracks the top 10. Hughes won this event in 2022 and has secured four top-10 finishes in 2024, which includes a T-4 showing at the Procore Championship in September.
However, Hughes could be dealing with fatigue after representing the International Team at last week's Presidents Cup, where he posted a 1-3-0 record. In addition, Hughes has struggled with accuracy off the tee, ranking 146th in driving accuracy (55.12%). He's also been widely inaccurate with his irons, ranking 137th in strokes gained: approach to green (-0.275) and 160th in greens in regulation percentage (62.38%). He's not a strong pick to win it all and there are far better values in the 2024 Sanderson Farms Championship field. See who else to fade here .
Another surprise: Jhonattan Vegas, a massive 40-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday.
In order to score well at the Country Club of Jackson, players will need to be extremely accurate with their irons and few do it better than Vegas. The 40-year-old enters this week's event ranked second in greens in regulation percentage (72.94%) and 20th in strokes gained: approach to green (0.469). He's also been extremely effective off the tee, ranking fourth in total driving (88) and eighth in strokes gained: off the tee (0.610). Those impressive stats, plus his long odds, make him a strong value pick for your 2024 Sanderson Farms Championship bets. See who else to back here .
