The Ole Miss Rebels and the South Carolina Gamecocks are set to square off in a SEC Bowl Subdivision battle at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium. The two teams have allowed few points on average, (the Rebels: 8.4, the Gamecocks: 17) so any points scored will be well earned.
Ole Miss is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Kentucky just ended the team's seven-game winning streak dating back to last season on Saturday. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 20-17. The matchup marked the Rebels' lowest-scoring match so far this season.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Tre Harris, who picked up 176 receiving yards and a touchdown. Jaxson Dart was another key passer, throwing for 261 yards and a touchdown.
Even if they lost, Ole Miss' defense still kept up the pressure with five sacks. Leading the way was Suntarine Perkins with two.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Carolina). They simply couldn't be stopped two weeks ago as they easily beat Akron 50-7 at home. The Gamecocks had no problem finishing drives, scoring a touchdown on all four of their trips to the red zone.
Robby Ashford was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.3 yards per carry, and also threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. Oscar Adaway III was in the mix as well, providing South Carolina with two touchdowns.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, South Carolina was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 549 total yards. That's the most total yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.
Ole Miss' loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-1. As for South Carolina, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
The upcoming game will be a clash of competing strengths. Ole Miss has relied on air attacks this season and has averaged 379.6 passing yards per game. South Carolina, on the other hand, has relied on a stout run game: they average 194 rushing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Saturday? There's only one way to find out.
Looking forward, Ole Miss shouldn't be too worried about this matchup, as the experts have them favored by ten points. This contest will be their sixth straight as the favorites (so far over this stretch they are 4-1 against the spread).
