Shane van Gisbergen won the pole for the Bank of America Roval 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in qualifying on Saturday afternoon, posting a lap of 82.704 (99.246 MPH) in the final round to earn his first NASCAR Cup Series pole in his 12th career start. The former V8 Supercars champion, who became the first driver to win in his Cup debut in NASCAR's modern era last year at the Chicago Street Course, also won the pole for Saturday's Xfinity Series race to sweep the pole positions for this weekend at the Charlotte Roval.

SVG earned the top spot over six playoff drivers who made the final round of qualifying for Sunday's Round of 12 elimination race, led off by regular season champion Tyler Reddick on the outside pole. Joey Logano and Austin Cindric, who both enter Sunday below the cut line and facing playoff elimination, will start inside the top five in fourth and fifth. Kyle Larson (sixth), Chase Elliott (seventh), and William Byron (10th) round out the playoff drivers who will start in the top 10.

The remaining playoff drivers include Christopher Bell in 12th, Daniel Suarez in 13th, Ryan Blaney in 14th, Alex Bowman in 17th, Denny Hamlin in 18th and Chase Briscoe in 25th. Briscoe, who is deepest of all playoff drivers in the standings and will have to erase a 32-point deficit to the cut line to make the next round, was the lone playoff driver to not qualify inside the top 20.
