    Police arrest Lafayette man accused of pushing woman on park trail, stealing cell phone

    LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Lafayette police have arrested a man accused of stealing a cell phone from a woman who was jogging on the Wabash Heritage Trail Thursday morning.

    Officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to the Wabash Heritage Trail around 10 a.m. in response to reports of a robbery taking place in the area.

    LPD said officers arrived on the scene and spoke with a 25-year-old female who told them that she was jogging when an unknown male pushed her to the ground and took her cell phone. LPD confirmed the victim did not sustain any injuries following the incident.

    A short time later, police found a man, identified as 25-year-old Zachary Phillips, on the same trail who matched the provided suspect description.

    Police detained Phillips without further incident and brought him to the Jail where he was preliminarily charged with:

    • Robbery (Level 5 Felony)
    • Obstruction of justice (Level 5 Felony)
    • Possession of methamphetamine (Level 6 Felony)
    • Criminal confinement (Level 6 Felony)

    Yeah, there are a few miscreants and never do wells hanging around down there, off in those woods. Better keep an eye out while you're by there.
