INDIANAPOLIS — Two teens were arrested after a fatal shooting at a northwest-side apartment complex in mid-September.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old were preliminarily charged with murder . The teens were not identified.

The arrests come after 38-year-old Jerry Thompson Jr. was shot and killed at an apartment complex in the 7600 block of Beverly Hills Dr. on the evening of Sept. 15. IMPD reported at the time that a man, later identified as Thompson, was found in the hallway of an apartment building.

IMPD officers said they believed that the shooting was a targeted incident, according to previous reports. Two individuals were detained at the time, identified by police as the two teens, and were released pending further investigation.

Arrest warrants were issued for the teens after an investigation into the shooting. On Thursday, IMPD detectives, along with the department’s violent crimes unit and SWAT team, located and arrested the two teens.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decisions.
