BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — “Oh yeah, life goes on, long after the thrill of living is gone.” This is a poignant lyric to John Mellencamp’s “Jack and Diane”. But now, it’s also symbolic of a new statue at Indiana University.

On Friday, IU Bloomington unveiled a brand new statue in honor of the Hall of Fame singer-songwriter and Bloomington local, John Mellencamp. The new statue, created by Indianapolis artist Michael McAuley, depicts the musician behind hits like “Small Town” holding his guitar, and is sure to become an IU staple even after the singer is “gone, long gone”.

According to a post to X from IU Bloomington, the statue can be found at the campus’s IU Auditorium North Garden. An image of the statue can also be seen in this post.
