INDIANAPOLIS — A shooting on the east side of Indianapolis left a man dead Saturday night.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of North Drexel Avenue around 9:22 p.m. on a report of shots fired. When police arrived at the scene, they located an adult male with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.

IMPD confirmed that the man was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 9:36 p.m.

Police reported that, moments before they made it to the scene, an Amazon driver who had just completed a delivery found the victim lying on the ground. The driver told police he did not see what happened before he found the man in the street.

IMPD also indicated that a private gathering was happening near the scene of the shooting, but all of the individuals at the event said they did not see the shooting.

At this point in their investigation of the shooting, police have not yet identified any suspects or witnesses. Law enforcement is urging those with information on the shooting to contact the IMPD Homicide Office at (317) 327-3475 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477.

As of this article’s publication, no additional information on the shooting had been made available.

The shooting that happened on Drexel Avenue was one of four that happened over the course of a few hours in Indianapolis Saturday night.

One person was killed in a shooting on Oxford Street — which is located less than five miles away from the Drexel Avenue — around 10:24 p.m. Earlier in the evening, two others walked into St. Francis and Community East Hospitals, respectively, with gunshot wounds.

Both of the victims who walked into area hospitals with gunshot wounds on Saturday night are in stable condition, according to IMPD.
