Trucker’s company helps route him to Maryland to collect powerball winnings

A truck driver was able to collect his prize after winning the powerball lottery thanks to the help of his understanding trucking company.

Bak in July, the unnamed truck driver from Texas had just dropped off a load in Hagerstown, Maryland when he stopped at the Pilot at 1633 Greencastle Pike for snacks and lottery tickets. The driver purchased two Powerball tickets and headed home to Texas.

A few days after the Powerball drawing happened on Monday, July 15th, the driver decided to check his tickets.

“I was on the road again and decided to check my tickets on the Powerball website,” said the married father of three to TriStateAlert . “I saw my matching numbers and knew it was something, but wasn’t sure how much.”

The driver then called his son to help double check the numbers.

“He said, ‘Dad, you almost won the jackpot,’” recalled the winner. “But then, he told me it was $50,000.” The driver had matched four white balls and the red Powerball for the third-tier win.

According to the Powerball rules, the winning ticket had to be cashed back in Maryland where it had been purchased, so the truck driver took the issue up with his company, who agreed to send him on another route to Maryland so he could collect his winnings. The driver and his wife then trucked up to Maryland to collect the money, which he says he will put toward his retirement.
