A South Dakota trucking company is winding down operations and laying off more than 100 workers, according to a WARN notice filed with the state.

On August 9, AA Temperature Controlled, doing business as A&A Express, informed the South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation that it would permanently close its facility in Brandon.

As a result of the facility closure, all 111 employees will be terminated, “by or about August 16, 2024, or within a fourteen day period of that date.”

According to Sioux Falls Business , of the 111 people to be laid off, 85 are truck drivers.

Company President Geno Cannon outlined reasons for the company closure in a letter to South Dakota state officials :

The Company has been in the process of seeking capital or a sale, which, if obtained, would have enabled it to postpone a closure and continue operations. Unfortunately, the Company could not obtain additional working capital from its lenders and the sale process has not been successful. The outcome was not reasonably foreseeable, but due to these unexpected circumstances, the Company can no longer sustain the operations. As a result, the Company has made the difficult decision to cease operations and is providing as much notice as is practicable of his closing.

A&A Express joined Roadrunner Transportation Systems in 2012.

A&A Express was acquired by private investment firm Laurel Oak Capital Partners, LLC in 2020.
