Two more ELDs removed from FMCSA’s list of approved devices

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) removed two Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) from the agency’s list of approved devices.

On August 15, the FMCSA placed the following ELDs on the agency’s Revoked Devices list for failure to meet minimum federal requirements :

• BLUE STAR ELD
• RELIABLE ELD

Motor carriers will have 60 days to replace the revoked ELDs with approved devices. During that time, law enforcement officers are “encouraged” not to cite drivers using these ELDs.

After October 14, 2024, safety officials are instructed to cite carriers still using the revoked devices for  “No record of duty status” or “Failing to use a registered ELD” and to place the driver out-of-service.

FMCSA asks motor carriers using the revoked devices to take the following steps:

1. Discontinue using the revoked ELDs and revert to paper logs or logging software to record required hours of service data.
2. Replace the revoked ELDs with compliant ELDs from the Registered Devices list before October 14, 2024.

In late July 2024, the FMCSA removed four other ELDs from the agency’s list of approved devices . Devices revoked in July include:

• CTE-LOG ELD
• ELD VOLT
• POWERTRUCKS ELD
• TFM ELD
