Officials in southeast Texas say they’re hoping for some economic growth in the region thanks to the opening of several ner truck stops along Interstate 10.

The four new rest stops will soon be built along I-10 between Beaumont and Orange, Texas, reports 12 News Now . At least one of them is expected to be open by the end of October 2024.

“They’re building new truck stops across I-10, across Texas and Louisiana as well,” said Lamar State College-Orange CDL Program Director Carl Cormier. “So, the growing popularity of places for trucks to be parking, access for fuel, and things of that nature.”

“Southeast Texas is the hub,” said Robbie Hood, city manager for the city of Vidor, which lies along the route. “We have the oil industry, manufacturing industry, and we’re a hub not only for that, but for the entire state of Texas, but trucking as well.”

“You’re looking at fuel, and then, when there, like I said, we have those restaurants that are in there,” said Hood. “There’s merchandise that’s being sold, that kind of aims at truckers.”

“So, every dollar that’s spent inside the road ranger, the City of Vidor captures sales tax from that, as does the state in Orange County,” Hood continued.

An estimated opening date for the remaining three truck stops has not been released.
