Truck driver guilty of murder of co-driver found in I-65 ditch in Indiana

On Tuesday, a truck driver was found guilty on homicide charges related to the death of his co-driver in 2022.

On October 8, Florida based truck driver Miguel Ibarguren, 44, was found guilty by a White County jury of the homicide of fellow truck driver Aristides Garcia, 63, of California, according to Indiana State Police (ISP).

Ibarguren’s sentencing is scheduled for next month.

On March 8, 2022, an adult male body was discovered in a ditch by crews cleaning I-65 at mile marker 187.5 in White County, Indiana.

After the body was positively identified as Garcia following an autopsy on March 10, 2022, police learned that he had been reported missing by his employer, a trucking company located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, after the semi truck Garcia was driving was located.

Investigators identified Ibarguren, Garcia’s co-driver, as a person of interest in the case.

Police located and arrested Ibarguren in Arlington, Texas, on March 15, 2022.

“This conviction is the result of an extensive multi-state investigation conducted by Indiana State Police Detectives, whose persistence and dedication were crucial in solving this case. The detectives worked tirelessly with local, state, and federal agencies to gather evidence and build a case that spanned several jurisdictions,” ISP stated in a news release following the homicide conviction.
