The Truckers Parade Against Cancer has officially raised $2 million for cancer research in its 23 year history.

The Charlotte County, Virginia parade started in 2000 after the organizer lost her mother to breast cancer.

“This parade started after I lost my mother to breast cancer,” said Sheila Jones, the parade’s organizer, to WTVR 6 . “The first year, we had 40 trucks.”

This year, the parade saw 200 trucks show up for the event and has officially raised a total of $2 million for the American Cancer Society. “We just asked them to make sure all of our funds were done for research,” Jones said. “It’s our way of remembering the ones lost and honoring the ones still fighting.”

The Truckers Parade Against Cancer is the fifth highest-grossing fundraiser in the United States for cancer research.
