The Iowa State Patrol Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit (ISPCMVU) recently nabbed a commercial vehicle driver for a major equipment violation.

On Monday, October 28, ISPCMVU took to social media to highlight a traffic stop that uncovered a potentially dangerous equipment failure.

“While following this truck and trailer a couple days ago, it did not take long for our CMVU Trooper to realize the truck wasn’t sitting quite right. Upon inspection, it was discovered the frame had completely broke on one side. Thankfully it was stopped before more damage or a crash occurred!” Iowa troopers said.

More than 100 people commented on the post, many noting that the driver should have spotted the trailer problem during a pre-trip inspection. See what folks had to say below.

    • “If only we had we had a process to catch something like. Maybe a before and after use inspection.”
    • “But…but…honest…it wasn’t like that when I did my pre trip this morning.”
    • “This is 100% proof that the driver isn’t doing his or her pre and post trip. I hope they were charged with operating a defective vehicle and endangering the public.”
    • “Doesn’t surprise me with some of Iowa roads we have to drive on!”
    • “You don’t suppose it has been overloaded a time or two…”

This can also happen to your car! My daughter bought a used vehicle for $2,000. She drove it a month and decided to get something different. So, I bought it. On the surface it was beautiful. My son drove it 5 blocks to get a pop and called me that he needed a tow truck. We towed it to the mechanic and got a huge surprise. The front axle had broke. No big deal, a $400 fix. But then he told me he didn't want to see me driving this. He showed me the rust under neath and could literally pick the frame apart with his finger. He told me he'd fix it if I wanted him to, but wanted me to dump it ASAP. Knowing how dangerous it was I could not in good conscious do this. I took the financial hit and sent it to the salvage yard for $300.

should have kept the commercial motor vehicle division as a separate unit dedicated to regulating commercial vehicles for speed and any other violations! there are too many grain and hog haulers that fly down the road 10 or15 or 20 mi over the limit
