Fire burns Cecil County home built in 1792, causing estimated $2.5M in damage
A fire Monday afternoon caused an estimated $2.5 million in damage to a Cecil County home built in 1792 and other nearby houses. The fire started around 2:40 p.m. and was fueled by strong winds as it burned a roughly 4,000-square-foot historic dwelling overlooking the North East River in Charlestown. The owners were not home and no injuries were reported, the state fire marshal said in a news release Monday night.

Miller takes leadership of Maryland Libraries
NORTH EAST — After 8 years at the helm of Cecil County Public Library Morgan Miller is taking on another, larger library system. Miller, who has been executive director of CCPL since 2016, has accepted a new role Maryland State Librarian. Miller, a North East resident, has been with CCPL for 19 years. She becomes just the fourth Maryland State Librarian, whose job it will be to oversee all 192 public libraries in the state plus Library for the Blind and Print Disabled, the State Library Network, the State Library Resource Center and the three regional library systems, the Library Capital Grants Programs, and the Deaf Culture Digital Library. Miller begins her new job at the end of the month. Meanwhile, the Library Board of Directors has begun its search for her replacement.
