    Elkton survives late Rising Sun comeback

    ELKTON — After allowing three runs in the top half of the seventh, Elkton scored twice during the bottom of the inning to walk things off in a 6-5 win over Rising Sun and advance in the 2A East playoffs.

    Elkton will visit top-seed Fallston on Saturday.

    The Golden Elks won on a walk-off single by James LaManna that scored Daymien Phillips. Elkton tied things at five on a passed ball that scored Collin Frye. Rising Sun's seventh inning rally began on back-to-back sacrifice flies from Wyatt McDowell and Hunter Magaw that tied the game at four. On the next at-bat, Sun's Zack VanDyke used an RBI double to score Grey Willis and put the Tigers up one.

    Holding a 3-2 lead entering the home half of the sixth, Elkton added a run off an RBI single from Luis Romero that put the Elks ahead two. Romero went two-for-four at the plate with a pair of RBIs. Romero brought in Elkton's first run of the game in the home half of the first to take a 1-0 advantage. The Elks extended their lead to three in the bottom of the third.

    The Tigers cut into Elkton's lead in the top half of the fourth and fifth innings. An RBI single in the fourth from Aidan King put Rising Sun on the board. In the fifth, McDowell drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to put the Tigers within one. McDowell finished with two RBIs.

    Elkton starter Caleb Potter and Rising Sun starter Luke Crowl each finished the day with five plus strikeouts. In 4 2/3 innings of work, Potter struck out five batters, while allowing three hits. Crowl pitched four innings, struck out eight Elkton hitters and allowed two hits.

    Patterson Mill 4, Perryville 0

    The Huskies used a three-run third inning, plus another run in the fourth to advance to the region semifinals. Perryville pitchers Cam Kestner, Gage Poorman and Zach Bines combined to allow just two hits despite the loss. Kestner and Poorman each struck out one. Noah Thomas pitched a complete game for Patterson Mill, allowing five hits and striking out seven. Dom Ferrigno went three-for-three at the plate for the Panthers. The Huskies will visit Bohemia Manor in the region semifinals on Saturday.
