CHARLESTOWN — The Beachcomber — which has been closed since 2016 — recently sold for $255,000 and its new owner is still considering the what the building at 873 Bladen St. will become in the future.

“I’m not saying it’ll never be a tavern again, but I’d prefer something else,” said Robert Hodge.

Hodge envisions the 3,500-square foot building becoming medical offices, or perhaps a day care. He wants something that would better meet the needs of the area.

“It’s zoned commercial and I would prefer a commercial use,” Hodge said. “I’m looking for all types of businesses.”

The focus right now is on cleaning up the site.

“It’s a mess inside and out,” he said, calling it ‘a Herculean task.’

There’s much to be done just to make the property presentable, Hodge went on.

“When it closed in 2016 they left everything. I’m talking about meat and food,” he said. “There’s cases of beer and wine, and kegs unopened just sitting there all these years.”

There’s an apartment in the building, which Hodge said had a squatter. However, said squatter never touched the unopened alcohol, he noted.

Anyone interested in being the tenant should contact Hodge at 443-553-1517.

So what happened to the Beachcomber?? Why did it close? Sounds like they left in a hurry leaving behind expensive inventory.
