ELKTON — Cecil County Court Appointed Special Advocates -- or CASA -- is hosting a free seminar aimed at helping young people in the community thrive and succeed.

"Improving Outcomes for Youth" will be held Sept. 5 starting at 5:30 p.m. in the Elkton Community Center, 121 Stockton St. The guest speaker is Michelle Jojola Smith from the Cecil County Department of Juvenile Services.

Giulia Hodge, CASA's executive director, said the seminar is geared toward adults who are concerned about how to deal with their children should they become engaged with either the county or Maryland Department of Juvenile Services.

"They are now changing the juvenile justice system to hold youth accountable," Hodge said, adding that adults need to understand how both systems operate and how to navigate each.

Hodge said there will be an opportunity for getting questions answered during the seminar, which should last about two hours.

    Refreshments will be served.
