ELKTON — Bohemia Manor and Rising Sun repeated as team victors at the Cecil County Invite on Tuesday.

The Eagles stacked four of its five scoring runners in the top 10 to secure its second consecutive win at the county invite. Bo Manor has won nine of the last 11 county meets. The Eagles totaled 30 points with a first place finish from Kenai Black in 16:32.93. Teammate Jason Wolfenden followed Black in second place.

After Rising Sun put Gage Stefanick, Niklas Haraldsson and Landen Milloway in third, fourth and fifth, plus a sixth place finish from North East’s Celyn Evans, Bo’s Gavin Rogers and Jacob Seiple followed back-to-back in seventh and eighth place. Oliver Leader rounded out the Eagles’ scoring five with a 12th place finish. Rising Sun’s boys placed second overall with 55 points, followed by North East in third with 61.

“It’s definitely showing that hopefully we can be a threat at states,” Black said. “Everyone pushes each other, Jason pushes me, Gavin pushes Jason and so on and so forth. This is really showcasing our skills. I’m happy with what we have been doing.”

The victory for Black is his first win at the county invite. He finished second overall a year ago. The result is his first sub-17 performance of the year across 5,000 meters. Black said he picked up his training over the second half of the summer. Coming off an outdoor track season where he ran 4:40 in the 1600 and 10:12 in the 3200, Black said his track performances added to his confidence during his summer mileage. He added his recent training consisted of weeks around 30 miles.

“My confidence kind of sky-rocketed over the summer,” Black said of how his outdoor season benefitted his summer training. “Hitting like 5:27 miles on four-mile tempos.”

Rising Sun’s girls’ team won its sixth consecutive county title with all five of its scoring runners placing in the top 10 positions. Mikayla Horst placed third overall in a time of 21:58.29, followed by Katie Callaghan in fourth, Emma Bare in fifth and Abby Spero in sixth. Isabelle Griffith rounded out Sun’s scoring runners with a ninth place result. The Tigers finished with a team score of 22. Bo Manor’s girls finished second overall with 41 points and Elkton rounded out the scoring girls’ teams with 67 points.

“It’s really exciting to see what we’re going to do in the rest of the season,” Horst said of Rising Sun’s performance.

Individually, North East’s Leanna Rogers won the county meet for the third straight fall with a time of 19:51.05. Bo’s Skylar Pizzulli finished second overall in 20:36.25. Horst said she focused on controlling her own race entering the meet, expecting both Rogers and Pizzulli to take the race out fast.

“My goal was to try and keep them in my sight,” Horst said. “For the first mile I could keep my eyes on them, but then after that, I just had to try and push myself because they got so far ahead.”
