Virginia Department of Corrections unveils new inmate literacy program to reduce recidivism
The program, which will be self-paced and taught by certified inmate tutors, will allow inmates to learn to read with the goal of transitioning into a GED program. 1 fatality reported in apartment fire in Lebanon
The Lebanon Police Department has said that one person has died and another sent to the hospital after a fire at Fox Meadows apartment complex on Thursday. Multiple families have also been displaced. Russell County Sheriff Bill Watson says a call came in about a fire and explosion at the complex. Watson believes that oxygen tanks inside the apartment may have caused the explosion. The Virginia State Police Arson Investigators have been called in to assist police in the investigation. The Department of Emergency Management in Russell County is helping those families that have been displaced.
