WAYNE – A confirmed report of West Nile Virus has been found in the first pool of mosquitoes testing positive within the Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department. According to a Wednesday afternoon release from Colleen Hupke, Health Director at NNPHD, the health department covers Cedar, Dixon, Thurston and Wayne Counties.

LINCOLN, Neb. — The mosquito that causes West Nile Virus (WNV) has been detected in a district consisting of four northeast Nebraska counties. “The Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department is alerting the public that the first pool of mosquitoes testing positive for West Nile Virus (WNV) has been found within the health district of Cedar, Dixon, Thurston and Wayne countes for the 2024 season,” the department posted on its Facebook page.

Nebraska State Patrol seeks help in locating person who fled law enforcement
The Nebraska State Patrol is seeking information on the whereabouts of a man who fled law enforcement in South Dakota and Nebraska on Wednesday. At approximately 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, NSP was informed that the South Dakota Highway Patrol was in pursuit of a motorcycle that was traveling southbound toward Nebraska. The rider was believed to be the subject of an arrest warrant. The South Dakota trooper discontinued the pursuit at the Nebraska border.

Authorities searching for Yankton man who fled law enforcement
HARTINGTON, Neb. (KTIV) - The Nebraska State Patrol is looking for a man who fled Nebraska and South Dakota law enforcement on Wednesday, June 19. NSP says at about 4:15 p.m. they were told by the South Dakota Highway Patrol they were pursuing a motorcycle traveling southbound toward Nebraska. The rider, identified as 47-year-old Jason Sitzman of Yankton, South Dakota, had an Iowa warrant out for his arrest. According to NSP, the warrant was for violating parole and was connected to a charge of possession with the intent to deliver meth.
