OPD: Man Cut Victim with Knife in Dog Dispute
An Ottumwa man cut a victim with a knife in a dog dispute. 41-year-old Cody Baugher was charged with willful injury, a class D felony, and assault with a dangerous weapon. On August 13, court records say Baugher went to the victim’s residence to retrieve a dog and was approached by the victim. Authorities say Baugher was in possession of a knife and attempted to cut the victim. The victim received wounds in his hands in an attempt to defend himself.

Pella Emergency Response Agencies Simulated School Emergency Response Tuesday Afternoon
Pella’s emergency response agencies gathered for training at Madison Elementary earlier this week. Members of Pella Police, Fire, and Ambulance partnered with a program led by Jasper County Emergency Management and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with Marion County Emergency Management. The integrated rescue response program brought the agencies together to discuss threats in schools and simulate an emergency. Pella Police Captain Paul Haase says it’s critical to have the right resources in place in case a tragedy were to occur, especially at a school building. The agencies were assisted by alumni of the Citizens Public Safety Academy, who acted as potential victims in the simulation.
New Cell Phone Policy Approved by OCSD School Board
The Ottumwa Community School District (OCSD) School Board approved the new cell phone policy effective for the 2024-2025 school year at the meeting on Monday. The Cell Phone Policy committee representatives were Associate Superintendent Brad McCloskey, Liberty Principal Heather Platten, At Risk Family Services Coordinator Megan Logan, Ottumwa High School (OHS) Principal Shelley Bramschreiber, Evans Middle School Principal Michael Davis, and James Elementary Principal Jay Green.

Although the football season is quickly approaching at West Central Valley, coach Jim Lindsay and his Wildcat football team took a day to help the Greenfield community. Pella Knights of Columbus Campaign to Return This Weekend
The Knights of Columbus Annual Campaign for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities continues for the 26th year this weekend. Members of the Knights will be at the Pella Hy-Vee, Fareway, and Walmart Stores this Saturday and on Saturday, August 24th to collect donations for the campaign. Pella Regional to Host Baby Fair September 21
Pella Regional Health Center will host a Baby Fair on Saturday, September 21st from 9 to 11 am for new or expecting parents, or those who recently had a baby. The Baby Fair will be held in the main entrance lobby at Pella Regional Health Center, and grandparents and caregivers are also welcome to attend. Those in attendance can tour the Family Birthing Center, learn about resources available to them, and ask questions to medical providers and staff. The Baby Fair will include breastfeeding education, healthy pregnancy tips, infant safety information, and car seat education and installation. The event will also feature a grand prize drawing for a Graco Pack ‘n Play, giveaways, vendor booths, childbirth experts, and more.

Victim drowns in Iowa City golf course pond
IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - A person drowned in a pond at an Iowa City golf course after being trapped under some maintenance equipment on Wednesday afternoon. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office said it happened at Pleasant Valley Golf Course, located at 4390 Sand Road SE, at around 1:39 p.m.
