Thousands gather for Portland Pride parade Sunday
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland Pride celebrations had a stormy start Sunday, but the brief downpour wasn’t enough to rain on the parade. The annual parade, emceed by KOIN 6’s very own Emily Burris and Travis Teich along with co-hosts Summer Lynne Seasons and Bolivia Carmichaels, went off without a hitch and some state leaders, including Oregon Governor Tina Kotek, were seen joining in the celebration.
Primus, Coheed And Cambria Stir Up Mosh Pit Of Heavy Metal Nostalgia In Oregon [Photos/Videos]
A diverse crowd gathered near Portland, OR on Friday for a concert at McMenamins Edgefield featuring Primus and Coheed and Cambria. When it was announced back in February, the co-headlining tour took some by surprise, seeing as Coheed’s heavily conceptual prog rock falls outside Primus’ psychedelic music festival milieu, though upon reflection, the pairing makes perfect sense. Primus has always had a strong footing in both the heavy metal world and jam band scene thanks to Les Claypool‘s idiosyncratic style and eclectic taste. The band recently toured with A Perfect Circle and Puscifer—both fronted by Tool singer Maynard James Keenan—and its heavy metal street credit may have actually peaked around the time that Coheed blew up on a national level with help from games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero, which also featured tracks from Primus.
Portland Celebrates Diversity with Thousands Attending Pride Parade Amid National Political Shifts
Despite a stormy start, Portland's Pride celebration witnessed thousands of attendees who gathered to champion diversity and self-expression yesterday. According to KOIN 6, despite the rain, the festivities, including the parade and the subsequent Old Town Block Party and waterfront festival, went off without a hitch. Headlined by Portland's very own drag superstar, Jinkx Monsoon, the event carried an atmosphere of freedom and open celebration.

Beaverton's Dennis Connors has turned tragedy into triumph in his life beyond the armed forces
Beaverton’s Dennis Connors has a unique story, but at the same time he doesn’t. The former Marine and war veteran has lingering effects from his time defending our country, and further effects from a stroke he suffered four years ago. But while still coping with the sadly common residuals from an experience many can’t relate, along with the tragic results of a compromising health scare, the 39-year-old has made the most of his circumstances, much of which he attributes to a sport that’s now taking...
The Portland Trail Blazers and the Death of NBA Free Agency
The Portland Trail Blazers have been completely quiet in this summer’s NBA Free Agent market despite needing help at multiple positions on the roster. This has caused continued, low-level concern for Blazers fans, eager to see their team improve from a 21-win season. Some of the reasons for Portland’s...
Lead-sheathed telecom cables and historic leaded gasoline emissions substantially raise environmental lead levels in Portland, Oregon
Communications Earth & Environment volume 5, Article number: 384 (2024) Cite this article. We conducted a high-resolution study of lead in an urban moss, Orthotrichum lyellii, to better understand lead distributions and sources in Portland, Oregon (United States). The outdoor lead landscape is found to be heterogenous, with lead concentrations varying with age of neighborhood: on average 8.3× and 19× the rural background in newer (≥1948) and older neighborhoods (≤1915), respectively. This study finds leaded gasoline to be a pervasive and persistent lead source, decades after the complete phase out of leaded gasoline use by on-road vehicles. The highest lead levels, up to 590× the rural background, are found in older residential neighborhoods where relic lead-sheathed telecommunication cables were identified. Leaching of lead from these cables is thought to be responsible for elevated lead in older residential neighborhoods in cities across the country. Targeted research is needed to quantify the impact of these cables on lead exposures in affected communities.
3 Former Blazers Among Top Olympians
