Each Wednesday at a sports bar and grill called “At the Office” in Crestwood, there’s a drawing in the Queen of Hearts raffle that raises money for Park Lawn, which serves people with developmental disabilities.
College-bound students get back-to-campus essentials thanks to scholarship program
CHICAGO (CBS) -- More than 100 college-bound students on the city's South Side had their trunks filled Thursday with all the back-to-school essentials.They were given a free laptop, backpack, and other essentials like bedding and a shower caddy at an event at the South Shore Cultural Center.The Trunk Scholarship Program is now in its 16th year. It is organized by Ada S. McKinley Community Services, and named after former Chicago Bear Revie Sorey.CBS News Chicago spoke to one senior who is headed to Howard University."It feels amazing, actually, to not have to worry about things that I need for my dorm," said Lailani Allison. "I'm excited about meeting new people, but also making more connections and just exploring the world."Scholarship winners answered the question, "Why obtaining a post-secondary education is important to me." The winning essays have been published.In addition to supplies, the top winners also received a cash award in the form of a gift card for fees and incidentals. The program has given out more than $20 million in college scholarships.

Berwyn Man Charged with First-Degree Murder of 3-Year-Old in Chicago Shooting
Following a nearly two-year investigation, Chicago Police have charged Govanni Hernandez, a 32-year-old man from the 6300 block of W. 26th St., Berwyn, Illinois, with the murder of a 3-year-old boy. According to a press release from the Chicago Police Department, Hernandez faces a series of felony charges including first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
Earlville man arrested by TRIDENT agents for alleged cocaine delivery
Agents with the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Narcotics Team (TRIDENT) arrested an Earlville man following an alleged drug delivery Thursday. According to a news release, 30-year-old Kenneth R. Hacek was allegedly involved in delivering three grams of purported cocaine to a person who was working with TRIDENT agents. The alleged exchange took place in the 4200 block of East 16th Road in Earlville. Following the alleged delivery, Hacek was involved in a traffic stop with TRIDENT agents and was taken into custody.

Cops 4 Cancer is receiving funds in a number of ways. Their two day summer concert in Cedar Point is the 26th and 27th. But, before that, is another “Queen of Hearts” Jackpot drawing Thursday (Tonight) at Greg's Dew Drop Inn at 7. Chances are six for $20 or $5 each. You have to have a ticket in the drum for a chance to win. One ticket will be pulled tonight (Thursday 7-18).
