Buer celebrates 25 years at First Bank Kansas
First Bank Kansas proudly celebrates Kent Buer, President and CEO, for 25 years with the organization. Kent was raised on a farm near Norway in Republic County, KS. With two older brothers, he realized he would need to find a different career path other than farming. A part-time summer job at a local bank piqued his interest in finance. Kent earned a Finance Degree from Kansas State University that prepared him to accept an offer as a Financial Examiner with the State of Kansas Banking Department based in the Salina field office.
Wichita taking applications for art grants
Wichita’s Arts and Cultural Services Division has announced the opening of applications for art projects, under a program called Arts Thrive. The grants were made possible by a $75,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The city is looking to award three $25,000 grants, although the exact amount may fluctuate depending on the actual project budgets submitted by applicants.

Newton Police using radar trailer
NEWTON, Kan. — The Newton Police Department recently acquired a new radar trailer to help remind drivers of the speed limit and draw attention to their driving. The trailer is currently in action in the 300 block of North Main. The red and blue lights blink if a vehicle goes over the posted speed limit of 20 mph. Staff will be moving the trailer to various areas around town to help encourage safe driving.

Vendors are in the heart of the farmers market season, and are happy to serve customers. Market manager, Jessica Kanudson says the local vendors are “not under a 3rd party” and most of them sell “organic and natural products.”
What to Do With Under-Utilized Space?
City of Salina and Saline County officials merged to meet with a consultant and the public, to address ways to best-utilize space in downtown Salina. Consultants and landscape architects from the Kansas City, Topeka and other areas across the state are developing a plan in regard to multiple government-owned space that is not being utilized. The plan is designed to create visions and goals that helps a community as a whole.
Short Film to Debut at Networking Event
In celebration of its fifth anniversary, Fili Creative will be unveiling the short film “Unboxed” at an upcoming networking and lunch event. According to the organization, “Unboxed” began as an idea created by Tim Burns, Fili Creative’s production assistant. When summer interns, Seth and Isaac Garrettson, came on board from May to July of 2024, their skills were perfectly suited to bringing the project to life.
