BELOIT — The Beloit Sky Carp had caused the Cedar Rapids Kernels all sorts of problems in winning the first two games of their six-game series.

Thursday night, the visitors gained a measure of revenge.

Tied at 2-2 after nine innings, the Kernels pushed across a pair of runs in the 10th for a 4-2 Midwest League victory at ABC Supply Stadium.

The Sky Carp lead the series 2-1 heading into Friday’s 6:35 p.m. game.

Thursday, Beloit jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Mark Coley II singled to center leading off and stole second. Johnny Olmstead also singled, moving Coley to third. Josh Zamora made it three singles in a row, driving in Coley and sending Olmstead to second.

Tony Bullard grounded into a double play, but Brock Vradenburg’s fourth single of the inning drove in Olmstead.

Cedar Rapids answered in the fourth inning against Beloit starter Karson Milbrandt. Kevin Maitan collected a one-out single and moved to second on a groundout. Misael Urbina walked and Kyle Jess loaded the bases with a single. A walk to Jose Salas cut Beloit’s lead in half and a throwing error by shortstop Olmstead on a grounder by Dillon Tatum tied the game.

The Sky Carp had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the fifth inning. Cameron Barstad led off with a double, but was cut down trying to move to third after Osiris Johnson had grounded out to third baseman Rubel Cespedes. First baseman Kevin Maitan threw to shortstop Salas covering third for the second out. Coley followed with a triple, but Olmstead flew out to end the inning.

The game stayed 2-2 through the ninth, taking it to tie-breaker criteria in the 10th. Cedar Rapids started the inning with Salas at second base. Reliever Edar Sanchez retired Dillon Tatum on a lineout to left, but Ricardo Olivar followed with an RBI single to center for a 3-2 lead. Cespedes gave Cedar Rapids an insurance run with an RBI single to right. He was thrown out by Johnson trying to stretch the hit to a double.

The Sky Carp started their 10th with Vradenburg at second, but Cedar Rapids reliever Kyle Bischoff (3-2) picked up the win when he retired the side in order.
