Audrey Heller, Grant Mather are voted the Register's female and male Athletes of the Week

West Des Moines Valley softball player Audrey Heller and Cedar Rapids Kennedy baseball player Grant Mather were voted the Des Moines Register's female and male Athlete of the Week winners for the week of July 15-21.

Heller won female Athlete of the Week with 51% of the vote. Dallas Center-Grimes softball player Izabella Mulder came in second with 26%.

Heller played a big role in No. 1 Valley's decisive 12-0 victory over Ames in the 5A Region 1 softball final on July 16 at the Valley Softball Field in West Des Moines.

Heller doubled and homered in her two at-bats. She finished with one run and three RBIs.

Mather took male Athlete of the Week with 59% of the vote. Johnston baseball player Sam Kemmer was runner-up with 40%.

Mather was hitting his spots on the mound for the No. 1 Cedar Rapids Kennedy baseball team during its 5-1 4A Substate 5 championship game victory over North Scott on July 17 at Cedar Rapids.

Mather held North Scott to two hits over seven innings as the winning pitcher. He struck out 11 batters and walked one.
