Ms. Jimmie Elaine Rowell Jones , age 81 of Cedartown, passed away on June 29, 2024.

Jimmie was born on July 20, 1942 in Cedartown, daughter of the late J.E. and Wilma Grogan Rowell of Rockmart. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her former husband, Robert H. Jones of Cedartown, and brother, Michael D. Rowell of Rockmart.

A granddaughter of the late Gus and Fannie McMillian Rowell of Rockmart and Walter and Willie Wilson Grogan of Antioch, she shared with her loving cousins a lineage to Polk County’s earliest settlers and the American Revolution.

She is survived by her son, Robert Bradley Jones, his wife Michele, and grandson Marshall Robert Jones of Avondale Estates.

Receiving the Senior Superlative of “Most Popular” as a 1960 graduate of Rockmart High School, Jimmie later attended West Georgia College and graduated from the Floyd Nursing School at Berry College in 1972.

She was a registered nurse for more than 35 years, first at Polk General Hospital and then the operating room of Redmond Regional Medical Center, where she was affectionately known as “Jsquared” or “JJ” by several doctors, a nickname she gave herself for her grandson.

After once moving to Rome, Georgia, she realized she was really comfortable in only one place, Cedartown, and moved back to stay.

In her retirement, Jimmie participated in many activities including the Adult Choir of First Baptist Church, the Rome Duplicate Bridge Club, and handbells at the First Methodist Church of Cedartown, where she was a member.

She and her son traveled the national parks extensively, and she enjoyed taking her beloved dogs Rufus and Ruby on walks through the renovated paths and landscape of Peek Forest Park, designed by her son. Jimmie doted on her grandson; to this day, she was the only one to cook him a boiled egg for breakfast done right.
