Report Shows 110% Rise in Illinois Domestic Violence Deaths as Advocates Call for Action
Advocacy groups are sounding the alarm on a spike in domestic violence cases. A new report from the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence says domestic violence deaths in Illinois rose by 110% last year, with 94 incidents of domestic violence leading to 120 deaths in 2023. That includes 107 homicides and 13 suicides in which the perpetrators took their own lives. That’s up from the previous year, when there were 45 incidents that led to 57 deaths.

Ogle County Sheriff’s Report: July 26, 2024
OREGON — On July 26 at 7:41 a.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop on North Walnut Street and West 2nd Street in Byron. As a result, deputies arrested Francisco Esquivel-Cruz, 54, of Loves Park for driving while license revoked. Francisco-Cruz was additionally issued a citation for operation of a vehicle with registration suspended. Francisco-Cruz was transported to the Ogle County Jail, where he was released on a notice to appear with a future court date.

Ottawa Agrees to Coordinate Grant with NCICG, Approves More Surveillance Cameras
At Thursday's special meeting of the Ottawa City Council, an agreement was approved to partner with North Central Illinois Council of Governments to administer and coordinate services regarding a Community Development Block Grant. The grant will allow for necessary rehab and upgrades to qualifying homes in the downtown and West side areas, from Chestnut to Route 6. Ten or more homes will be chosen from applicants in the designated area. An estimated $650,000 is available to divide up into those properties.
