Orlando Braces for Saharan Dust and Potential Storms, Heat Index to Surge
For those making their way to Orlando this fine Sunday, a breath of Saharan dust is set to lightly haze the skies, offering a break from the usual heavy humidity but also curtailing the likelihood of rain. The National Weather Service in Melbourne informed us earlier today that visibility might hang at or above 6 statute miles despite the Saharan souvenir – so those aircraft operations at Orlando's airfields, such as KISM-KMCO-KSFB and KLEE, should anticipate minor disruptions. You can expect thunderstorm activity, though, with some carrying gusts up to a formidable 40-50 mph.

Tracking Impact Weather - Evening Showers and Breezy Winds
Tracking Impact Weather - Evening Showers and Breezy Winds. You can feel the heat the second you step out the door this afternoon as temps climbed into the mid and upper nineties across our inland communities. With the moisture in place Heat Indices are likely to peak between 103-107 degrees. So, make sure to stay hydrated and take precautions when stepping outdoors today. No heat advisories are in place today, but there will be a chance for a strong-severe isolated storm. Coverage of today's rain won't be as widespread as we saw last night, but across our northern most communities heavy rain will come equipped with breezy winds, frequent lightning and the chance for flooding.
It’s Thunderstorms-Lite Sunday, then more widespread rain during the week
SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Saturday storms were few, but still with a few downpours. Ward Lake, on the east side of Bradenton, picked up over an inch (1.14″), the east side of Sarasota almost a half inch (0.48″) while SRQ stayed dry. We’ll see a few isolated storms again Sunday. A large area of dust from the Sahara moves overhead today. That could give us a hazy overcast and thunderstorms might not be as widespread as they would be without the dry dust layer overhead, but we will still see some thunderstorm activity. Fortunately, the dust will keep the tropics quiet for several days. As the dust layer dissipates during the workweek, a small disturbance in the upper atmosphere moves over Florida. That disturbance could make afternoon and evening storms more widespread during the week ahead.
