The Shelby County 4-H program ushered in a new year of youth development with a kick-off event held at the County Extension Office on Sept. 9. The ceremony celebrated the achievements of the past year, welcomed new officers, and honored outstanding contributions from both individuals and local businesses.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the esteemed Gold Star Award, 4-H’s highest honor, which was bestowed upon Camille Greer. This award recognizes exceptional 4-H members who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, commitment, and contributions to their community. Camille, an 8 year veteran of the program, and a 4th generation Gold Star recipient has been lauded for her innovative projects and dedication to mentoring younger members. “It’s an incredible honor,” said Camille. “I’m grateful for the support of my family, my leaders, and all my fellow 4-H members.”

Camille Greer was announced as the new President, Avery Metcalf as 1st Vice President, and Conner Nutt as 2nd Vice President, Landree Jousan as Secretary, Carter Greer as Assistant Secretary, Cassie Nutt as Treasurer, Luke Jousan as Reporter, Della Groves as Parliamentarian and Mia Munoz as Club Program/Activity Leader.

Another significant accolade, the I Dare You Award, was presented to Avery Metcalf and Conner Nutt, two promising young 4-H members recognized for their potential and enthusiasm. This award aims to inspire the next generation of leaders by acknowledging those who show great promise and dedication. “Avery and Conner embody the spirit of 4-H,” said Feleshia Thompson. “Their passion and commitment to growth are truly inspiring.”

The Friend of 4-H Award, which acknowledges outstanding support from local businesses, was given to Despino Tire Service. This year, Despino Tire Service was recognized for their unwavering support of 4-H initiatives, from sponsoring events to providing resources and mentoring. “Despino Tire Service has been an invaluable partner in our mission,” said Lane Dunn. “Their support has made a significant impact on our programs and the lives of our members.”
