Longhorns remain #1 as backup becomes starter The SEC opener for the Longhorns comes this week against Mississippi State, and the Longhorns have a decision to make. Is starting QB Ewers healthy enough to have a go at the Bulldogs? Ewers practiced on Monday light duty after sitting out of last week’s LA-Monroe 51-3 route. QB Arch Manning threw two touchdowns and two interceptions in his first win at the starting hot spot for the Horns. While the Horns will give Ewers all the time needed to heal properly before turning the lead reins over, Arch Manning will do fine leading the Longhorns, 4-0, into this week’s matchup. Look for the SEC opener for the Longhorns to continue as the Horns continue to hook that top slot on the AP and Coache’s top 25 poll.

Texas A&M slides past Bowling Green What should have been a blowout this past week against Bowling Green was nothing short of a squeaker as the Aggies slid past a team they were heavily favored to beat. Now ranked #24, the maroon squad will face off with Arkansas. Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed threw for two touchdowns to help get the Aggies past Bowling Green but will need to be more accurate this week to get past this SEC matchup of the week. Since joining the SEC, Texas A&M has enjoyed an 11-1 lead over the Razorbacks, but overall, Arkansas has a 42-35-3 standing record that is better than that of A&M. This will be an excellent game to watch.

Houston drops one to Minnesota It was late in the second quarter before the Texans put any points on the board against the Minnesota Vikings in week 3. Down 21-0, Cam Akers hauled in an 8-yard pass from QB CJ Stroud, and a good extra point kick brought the score to 21-7. That would be all the scoring for the Texans in this matchup. At 2-1, the Texans are still finding their groove and should fare better against the Jacksonville Jaguars this week. The Jags are 0-3 and are currently on pace for the #1 overall draft pick in 2025. The Texans are at home for this matchup, which many call a sure win for the Texans, still favoring a low-scoring affair, at least from the Jacksonville sideline. Look for Houston to score early and play all four quarters, as they will shake off this loss to Minnesota and continue to grow into the team we expect in 2024.

Dallas drops two in a row The Dallas Cowboys are now sitting at 1-2, and Cowboy fans are surely pulling their hair out of their heads as this painful 28-25 loss to the Baltimore Ravens failed to score in the fourth quarter, and a 19-point rally from the Cowboys fell short.

Coming in at a dismal 19 in the NFL power rankings, most of what fans are seeing was very predictable and avoidable in the off-season. The question remains: are we (fans) right, or is Jerry Jones(owner) right?

This Thursday night is a blast from the NFL past as the Cowboys will face the New York Giants on primetime football. The betting spread is not favoring the Cowboys, down by 4.5 points in the spread; however, look for a rally from the Cowboys this week; I think it is too soon to count out these boys from Dallas.
