Baseball and softball signups underway
Baseball and softball signups underway News Staff Thu, 01/25/2024 - 05:33 Image Body Below is the link that will be used to sign up for the City of Center spring baseball and softball programs. A birth certificate must be uploaded for all players, including those players who have already played. Once the birth certificate is uploaded, it will be uploaded for every sport. The deadline to register is Saturday, Feb. 17. There will be no spring soccer season this year. Soccer will return in the fall. If unable to sign up online, visit the Center City Hall on Tenaha Street, Monday through Friday between 8:30 and 4:30. Monday accident claims life of S’ville resident Submitted By Thu, 01/18/2024 - 06:05 Image Body Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers are investigating a one-vehicle fatality crash that occurred Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, on Farm-to-Market Road 2694. The preliminary crash investigation indicates at approximately 8:10 a.m., a 2020 Jeep SUV was traveling westbound at an unsafe speed when the vehicle slid across the eastbound lane and off the roadway, where it struck two trees. The driver was removed from the vehicle by a witness to the crash, at which time the vehicle caught fire and burned. The driver, identified as Barbra Jackson, 54, from Shelbyville, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Shelby County Justice of the Peace Marla Denby. This crash remains under investigation. Additional information is not available at this time.

SCSO reports in-custody death News Staff Thu, 01/18/2024 - 06:05 Image Sheriff Kevin W. Windham Body Shelby County Sheriff Kevin W. Windham reported in a press release Wednesday morning, the in-custody death of James Ray Jackson, 60, of Center. Jackson passed away January 17, 2024, at approximately 5:35 a.m. The Texas Rangers have been called in and are investigating. According to the press release, the Shelby County Sheriff ’s Office will not release any further information regarding the situation. Jackson had been booked into the Shelby County Jail on January 11, 2024 for the charge of Aggrivated Assault Family Violence with weapon, a Felony 1. Jackson was issued a $40,000.00 bond.
