Two drown in fishing barge capsizing on Toledo Bend News Staff Thu, 05/30/2024 - 05:50 Image Body According to the Sabine Parish Sheriff ’s Office, a boating incident shortly before noon Tuesday, May 28, resulting in the death of two people. Initial information was a fishing barge capsized in the Pirates Cove area of Toledo Bend Lake with six people on the barge. Four reportedly swam to safety, and two allegedly drowned. They were located and recovered. Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries (LDWF) is the lead investigator of the incident. Sabine Parish Sheriff Deputies, LDWF Agents, North Sabine Fire District, South Sabine Fire District, and Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Deputies were involved in the recovery efforts.

Corbell and Cheatwood victorious in run-off election News Staff Thu, 05/30/2024 - 05:50 Image Body Gerald Corbell defeated J.R. “Jimmy” Faulkner in Tuesday’s Republican Primary run-off election for the office of sheriff of Shelby County. Corbell received 1,089 votes to Faulkner’s 891. In the run-off for constable of precinct 3, Roy Cheatwood received 316 votes to defeat Scott Burkhalter who received 239 votes. Election results are unofficial until they are canvassed by the Commissioners’ Court.
