After Texas Fire destroyed Idaho home, fundraiser seeks help for reconstruction
When Marsha Schoeffler first found out, she was standing at her sink pitting cherries. One of her neighbors knocked on her door, telling her a fire had started about a mile away. She lives four miles from Kendrick, a rural north central Idaho town home to around 300 people in Latah County. She walked out […]
Idaho Experiences Nearly 3,000 Lightning Strikes in 24-Hours
In what was nothing short of a 'shocking' report--we are now learning that in about 24-hours, Idaho experience nearly 3,000 individual lightning strikes over the gem state. Each summer in the Treasure Valley, we know exactly what to expect. Things start off slow, and then we wake up one day to scorching heat. That heat will stick around for a few days, and then things will cool off a bit. When they cool off, we get a thunderstorm and then said thunderstorm takes over social media for 24-hours, at least.
Smoke & sunshine today as highs cool into the mid-90s
BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — More and more smoke is pouring in from Eastern Oregon today. Our air quality has deteriorated in the last 24 hours as a weak southwesterly flow and northerly winds push more smoke into the forecast area. Our air quality is in the "Unhealthy" category today....

Stanley's open and ready for visitors, mayor says
The sky might be a bit hazy and the Redfish Lake recreation complex is closed, but Stanley remains open and ready for summer visitors, Mayor Steve Botti said this week. The Bench Lake Fire, which started July 11 about 8 miles south of Stanley and about a mile from Redfish Lake Lodge, had burned 2,595 acres as of Thursday morning. The fire's cause hasn't been determined. It was listed as 45 percent contained on Thursday. A total of 403 people from eight crews were fighting the fire with 15 engines and nine helicopters on Thursday.
The New Source of Smoke Over Southern Idaho
A line of thundershowers cleared the air briefly, but we woke up Friday morning in the Magic Valley under a shroud of smoke. It’s probably not from any of the lightning strikes Thursday evening, or not all of it is related to new fires. One of the biggest blazes in Idaho is burning in Central/Western Owyhee County. The Silver Fire was first reported on Wednesday. According to the Idaho Fire Map, it looks to be among the largest currently roasting in the state. It doesn’t appear to rival the multiple blazes scorching eastern Oregon, but there’s a history of massive fires in Owyhee County.
Boise Vows to Rebuild After ‘Devastating’ Wind, 5-Minute Sprinkle
Weather alerts from all over were 'flooding' the Treasure Valley just a day ago as 'extreme' weather was allegedly on the way. National weather alerts and local new outlets continued to remind Boise residents to be safe as this 'extreme' storm was on the way. Many waited, waited, and waited...
US promises $240 million to improve fish hatcheries, protect tribal rights in Pacific Northwest
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The U.S. government will invest $240 million in salmon and steelhead hatcheries in the Pacific Northwest to boost declining fish populations and support the treaty-protected fishing rights of Native American tribes, officials announced Thursday. The departments of Commerce and the Interior said there will be an initial $54 million for hatchery maintenance and modernization made available to 27 tribes in the region, which includes Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Alaska. The hatcheries “produce the salmon that tribes need to live,” said Jennifer Quan, the regional administrator for NOAA Fisheries West Coast Region. “We are talking about food for the tribes and supporting their culture and their spirituality.” Some of the facilities are on the brink of failure, Quan said, with a backlog of deferred maintenance that has a cost estimated at more than $1 billion.
