City leaders open new 12th Ave Dog Park in downtown Cedar Rapids
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KGAN) — After facing a small set back, the 12th Avenue Dog Park opened its gates in downtown Cedar Rapids. The park was originally planned to open back on July 12. But, that opening was postponed to to allow sod to settle more. On Friday, city leaders celebrated its opening there with a ribbon cutting.
New Cedar Rapids Michael’s Store to Open in August
Craft lovers rejoice! A new Michael's store will open in Cedar Rapids next month!. If you love crafting or your kids need materials for a school project, you head to Michaels. The location at 1470 Twixt Town Road in Marion has been open since 1993. Now, another Michael's location will be opening up on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the new Michael's store will be located at 3500 Dalton Way SW. It will be in the same building as Ross Dress for Less in the Westdale Town Center.

Cedar Rapids — Cedar Rapids firefighters had to put out multiple vehicle fires Friday morning. Crews were first called to the 1500 block of 76th Ave. SW at 9:39 a.m. for a report of a vehicle fire, but they found multiple vehicles on fire when they got there. The smoke could be seen for several miles.

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Coe College women's track & field team earned the academic honors earlier this week, securing National Academic Team Honors. In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.1 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, among other qualifiers.

Man fatally pinned under lawnmower confirmed to be Bosco Catholic School teacher
GILBERTVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) - The man that died after being pinned under a lawnmower on Thursday was identified as a teacher with Bosco Catholic School System. The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office said 43-year-old Jake Knepper, of Jesup, was trying to load a commercial grade lawnmower onto a trailer in the 100 block of 160th Street when the mower tipped off the side of the trailer and rolled upside down, pinning him underneath it.
