The first new restaurant that I saw pop up on social media was actually posted by Dirty Dough in Cedar Rapids. The cookie shop, which opened earlier this year, posted a photo of a new sign with the caption, "exciting things happening on the westside by us!"

Iowa Doctor Pleads Guilty to HIPAA Violations
An Iowa emergency room doctor has pleaded guilty to violating HIPAA by knowingly accessing the medical records of two patients without authorization when there was no treatment relationship with the patients. Dr. Gabriel Alejandro Hernandez Roman, 33, was a resident at two University of Iowa hospitals between 2020 and 2023, one in Cedar Rapids and another in Iowa City. During that time, Hernandez Roman knowingly and without authorization obtained the medical records of two individuals without their knowledge or consent. The two individuals did not have a treatment relationship with Hernandez Roman and were former romantic partners.

News Freight Passenger Mechanical M/W C&S/IT Finance Regulatory. Iowa Interstate Railroad (IAIS) Founding Chairman Dr. Paul H. Banner died June 17, 2024; he was 102. Cedar Rapids, Iowa-based IAIS operates in the Midwest region between Chicago, Peoria, and the Omaha areas, and is the only regional in the country with direct connections to all six Class I’s. The railroad was established in 1984 (scroll down for its history), and Banner served as the first Chairman; in 1986, he assumed the role of President, which he held until 1991. Prior to IAIS, Banner held leadership positions at Southern Railway and the Rock Island.

John Deere Classic week set to begin
The PGA Tour returns to the Quad Cities this week with the John Deere Classic. Eight former champions are in the field, including defending champ Sepp Straka (straw-kuh), two-time champ and three time major winner Jordan Spieth (speeth) as well as Cedar Rapids native and two time major winner Zach Johnson. Fatal crash in Fayette County
FAYETTE COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) - At approximately 3:56 pm, the Iowa State Patrol responded to the intersection of 240 St. and X Ave in rural Waucoma for a report of a crash. Officials say a 2000 Chevy S10 truck was driving southbound of X Ave when it approached an uncontrol gravel intersection and collided with a 2007 Ford Edge that was traveling westbound on 240 St.
