    Police: One dead, two injured in Smyth County I-81 crash

    SMYTH COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — One person is dead and two injured after a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 in Smyth County Friday.

    According to a release from Virginia State Police (VSP), a 2001 Toyota Sequoia was traveling northbound on I-81 in Smyth County around 7 a.m.

    The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, went off the side of the road, hit the guardrail, bounced back onto the interstate and overturned several times, VSP reported.

    The driver, identified by police as Casey A. Hornsby, 36, of Central City, Kentucky, was partially ejected from the vehicle. He reportedly died at the scene.

    Two passengers inside the vehicle sustained minor injuries in the crash. The driver and passengers were wearing seatbelts, according to VSP.

    The crash remains under investigation.
