    Central Oregon young rodeo athletes shine

    The Tri-County Rodeo Club had a great two-day rodeo at their home competition, which was held May 3-5 at the Crook County Fairgrounds.

    This year's club has nearly 60 athletes, and several of them had outstanding performances in Prineville.

    Summer Schaffran had an outstanding performance for the cowgirls on the club, taking third on day one in barrel racing, then finishing first on day two. Schaffran was also seventh on day two of breakaway roping. Kaydee Kasch also had a great rodeo taking first on day one of barrels and then finishing 10th in the same event on day two.

    Other Tri-County cowgirls to place in the rodeo included Laney Moore, who took a first and second in girls cutting. She was also fourth on the first day of reined cow horse and third on the first day of breakaway roping. Brinley Holyan picked up a third in the second go round of breakaway roping as well as sixth place in the second go round of pole bending and the first go round of barrel racing.

    Ryann Mitchell picked up a fourth in the second go round of pole bending and finished seventh in the second go round of barrels, while Ruby Snider was ninth in the second go round of breakaway roping. Taylor Jo Sherman earned seventh in both go rounds of goat tying and 1-th in both go rounds of breakaway roping, while Makensi Faulkner was seventh in the first go round of breakaway roping and Ashytn West took eighth in the second go round of goat tying.

    Justin England was first in the first go round of saddle bronc riding, while Brody Dent came away with first place on the first day of saddle bronc riding.

    Cache Montgomery picked up a first place on day one of steer wrestling and along with Wyatt Neathery won the second go round of team roping. Sean Mahoney was second on day two of bareback riding and took third in the same event on day one, while Logan Maul was fourth in the event both days and Nash Milliron picked up a fifth in the same event on day two.

    Coby Holmes along with Clayton Oakley finished first on day one of team roping, while Earl Oliver and Peter Taylor finished third on day two of the same event. Taylor was also ninth on the first day of tie down roping, while Holmes finished fifth on day one of tie down roping and ninth on day two.

    Competitors were in Burns May 10-12 for the final rodeo of the season prior to the state finals, which will be held in Prineville June 12-15. The top 20 athletes in each event are eligible to compete in the state finals, with the top four qualifying for the National High School Rodeo Finals which will be held later in the summer.

    nothing like teaching kids it's okay to abuse animals for entertaining ass holes.We should reverse roles let the tough guys run and get roped around their necks while a bunch of screaming hollering drunken idiots cheer it on!
