The Crook County High School girls soccer team competed in a jamboree at Caldera High School last Thursday, coming away with a 1-1-1 record.

The Cowgirls defeated Sisters 1-0 in their opening match on a goal from Anna Bales. Crook County and Redmond then played to a 0-0 tie before Crook County fell to Mountain View 1-0 in the final match of the day.

The match with Mountain View was tightly contested the entire way, with both teams having a handful of scoring opportunities. The Cougars were able to get the winning goal as Ava Chavez scored on a rebound following a penalty kick.

The format saw each team play three 20-minute matches, with the Cowgirls playing their first two matches on grass and their final match on artificial turf.

The Cowgirls used their entire roster during the three matches, without any apparent drop off in talent, showing their depth as a program. The team also tried more than one formation during the course of the day as head coach Mary Buell experimented with different combinations of players.

Crook County opens the season on Friday when they face Ontario in a 7 p.m. match at Bend Pine Nursery. The team is back in action on Saturday when they return to Bend to play La Grande in a noon match, also at Bend Pine Nursery.

The first opportunity to see Crook County at home will be on Tuesday, Sept. 17 when Crook County takes on Cottage Grove in a 5 p.m. match.
