Oregon Health Authority needs more language and behavioral health services, report says
The Oregon Health Authority needs to step up efforts to provide health care for Oregonians who speak different languages and to expand access to behavioral health care treatment, a new state report found. The report, released the week of July 15 by the authority’s Ombuds Program, scrutinizes shortcomings in the state’s Medicaid program, which provides medical, dental and behavioral health care for low-income Oregonians. Madras woman pleads guilty in fatal shooting of ex-husband
Paige Jordan Vannorsdall, 27, of Madras pled guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the 2022 fatal shooting of her ex-husband, Devyne Briggs or Prineville. On December 16, 2022, Briggs was at Vannorsdall’s home in southeast Madras, when Vannorsdall shot him multiple times. They were married for five years beginning in 2015 before getting a divorce. Vannorsdall had sole custody of their son, who was six when the murder occurred. Court documents state that Briggs and Vannorsdall were in a dispute over whether Briggs was fulfilling the terms of their court-ordered parenting agreement when the shooting occurred. Vannorsdall was arrested and arraigned immediately after the murder, and was originally charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. Sentencing in the case is set for June 22.

Granite is an old mining community in Grant County, Oregon. It was first established by miners after the discovery of gold along Granite Creek on July 4, 1862.
