Jersey City ordered to reinstate cannabis cops or face $100 daily fines
Forgive us if this one sounds familiar: Jersey City has been ordered by a state hearing board to reinstate police officers who were fired for legal cannabis use. The city remains winless in its quixotic quest to bar police officers from using cannabis while off-duty after Wednesday’s identical rulings in the cases of Norhan Mansour and Omar Polanco, among the first officers to be disciplined by the city for testing positive for the drug that was legalized in 2020.

Residents displaced after fire on Liberty Street in Newburgh
NEWBURGH – Several residents were displaced after a fire at 103 Liberty Street in Newburgh on Thursday night. The blaze at the four-story building was reported at 8:08 p.m. Fire crews identified a strong odor of smoke on the upper three floors, which led to the discovery of a small fire in a bedroom on the third floor. The fire was quickly put out using a single sprinkler, limiting the spread of the fire and smoke damage to the building.
Newburgh Man Nabbed With Loaded Gun Following Chase, Police Say
The incident occurred in Orange County on Wednesday, July 24, around 11 p.m. in the area of Third Street and City Terrace in the city of Newburgh.
