The Salvation Army of Lewis County will open as a cooling center through July 9 as temperatures are forecasted to approach the triple digits.

Located at 303 N. Gold St. in Centralia, the Salvation Army will be open July 6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., on July 7 from 2 to 6 p.m. and on July 8 and 9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Salvation Army will continue to offer its regular lunch program Wednesday through Friday, which begins at 11 a.m.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat advisory for much of Western Washington through 10 p.m. Tuesday, with temperatures to peak Monday and Tuesday with highs of 98.

According to the NWS, temperatures “will significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses for much of the population, especially those who are heat sensitive and those without effective cooling or adequate hydration.”

The NWS recommends those in Western Washington should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.

According to the NWS, young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

In addition to the Salvation Army, Timberland Regional Library branches will also open as cooling centers. To find the nearest location and hours of operation, go to timberland.bibliocommons.com/v2/locations .
