A woman accused of assaulting her ex-boyfriend and threatening to kill him with a knife in Centralia on Monday is now facing felony charges in Lewis County Superior Court.

Bail is set at $50,000. A no-contact order protecting the victim is in place.

Sarah Culp, 42, of Centralia, is accused of entering her ex-boyfriend’s residence in the 300 block of South Yew Street just before 11:35 p.m. on July 1, punching him in the face and holding a knife to him while saying she was going to kill him, according to court documents.

Responding officers “did notice an abrasion on (the ex-boyfriend’s) face,” according to court documents.

She allegedly fled the residence before officers with the Centralia Police Department arrived. She did later return to the South Yew Street address, where she was arrested, according to court documents.

When questioned, Culp allegedly admitted to hitting the victim in the face.

“I know she was very frustrated with this matter as Ms. Culp is adamant she was the victim in this case,” defense attorney Rachael Tiller said Friday.

Lewis County Jail records indicate Culp was booked into the jail at 7:40 a.m. on July 3.

She was charged July 5 with one count each of second- and fourth-degree assault and one count of felony harassment. Each charge carries a domestic violence enhancement.

Court documents indicate Culp has a history of mental illness that she takes medication for, but was not taking her medication at the time of the incident.

Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, July 11.
