Get up close with the natural world this Saturday morning with a talk from a wildlife biologist at the Seminary Hill Natural Area.

There will be pelts, antlers and animal skeletons available to examine and touch during the free “Animals in Nature” event at 10 a.m. at the main natural area entrance at the corner of Barner Drive and Locust Street.

Attendees will also get a chance to assemble a nature journal and partake in other nature-related activities

Wildlife biologist Jessica Homyack, of Chehalis, will return to present this popular activity.

Homyack will give a short presentation on the wildlife of the Pacific Northwest and then answer questions. As always, there will be a chance to hike the 70-plus acres of the century-old Seminary Hill Natural Area.

Other upcoming events to mark on your calendar:

    • Music on the Hill — Saturday, Aug. 24, at 10 a.m. with The Department of Peace Trio and other local musicians. (Contact the Friends of the Seminary Hill Natural Area if you’d like to be a musician at this event)
    • Trail Maintenance Work Party — Saturday, Sept. 14 at 9 a.m.

All events are organized and hosted by the Friends of the Seminary Hill Natural Area, a nonprofit group that has been working in partnership with the city of Centralia (which owns the natural area property) to care for the forest and offer interpretive events for 45 years. The group is always ready to welcome in new volunteers.
