Penn State’s homecoming is here and with it will come temporary changes to traffic, transit and parking for the homecoming parade.

The university’s transportation services released changes related to the parade through campus and downtown State College beginning Friday evening.

The parade route will be closed to traffic from 5:30 p.m. until the parade is over. Parade participants will begin setting up in the fields east of Medlar Field and from there, the route will:

    • Form on Curtin Road and travel west, crossing University Drive They will join units that have formed on Bigler Field near the IM Building

    • West on Curtin Road to Bigler Road

    • South on Bigler Road to Pollock Road

    • West on Pollock Road to Shortlidge Road

    • South on Shortlidge Road to College Avenue

    • West on College Avenue to Burrowes Road

    • North on Burrowes Road to Curtin Road

    • The parade will end at the Burrowes/Curtin intersection

Parking along the parade route will be restricted; parked cars must be removed from College Avenue before the parade begins.

Paid parking is available for $2 for the first hour and $1 per hour thereafter at the Nittany, East, West and HUB Parking Decks. Due to the football game on Saturday, game day rates will apply for vehicles that remain parked into Saturday ($40 at the East, HUB and Nittany decks, and $25 at West Deck).

Police will direct traffic at different intersections on campus, a release from the university states, but delays should be expected. Several roads will be closed to accommodate the parade route, including:

    • Porter Road between Curtin Road and the southernmost entrance to the Jordan East parking area will be closed beginning at 4:30 p.m. until the parade units have left. That is expected to be around 7 p.m.

    • Curtin Road between University Drive and Porter Road will be closed from 4:30 p.m. until the parade ends.

The following roads will be closed from 5:30 p.m. until the end of the parade:

    • Curtin Road between University Drive and Bigler Road

    • Bigler Road between Curtin Road and Pollock Road

    • Pollock Road between Bigler Road and Shortlidge Road

    • Shortlidge Road between Pollock Road and College Avenue

    • College Avenue between Shortlidge Road and Burrowes Road

    • Burrowes Road between College Avenue and Curtin Road

Curtin Road will be closed between Atherton Street and Burrowes Road from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday for the “Guard the Lion Shrine” event.

Because the parade will impact Burrowes and Pollock roads, vehicles leaving Brown A, Brown B, Brown E and Old Main will go northbound on Fraser Road from Pollock to Curtin roads.

“The gates on Pollock Road near Old Main will be raised Friday evening to allow Brown B permit holders to utilize this exit route, and the bollards separating Fraser Road from Curtin Road also will be removed to allow vehicles to use the exit route,” a release from the university states. Beginning at 5 p.m. vehicles leaving Jordan Exit will do so via Dauer Road to University Drive or through the southernmost exit to Porter Road.

A number of parking lots will have restrictions across campus, as well.

    • The Lion Shrine visitor lot closes at 3 p.m. Friday, vehicles must be removed by 5 p.m.

    • Cars must be removed from the section of Yellow H west of the IM Building by 4 p.m.

Those who don’t want their cars to remain parked until the end of the parade should remove their vehicles from these lots before 5:30 p.m. Friday:

    • Yellow H (Shields Building)

    • Yellow H (Wagner Building)

    • Orange J (McCoy Natatorium)

    • Lot 42 (north of Building 14): Vehicles will exit via Millennium Drive to Hastings Road

    • Lot 81 (at Ritner/Wolf Halls and Pollock Building): Vehicles will exit to Mifflin Road then travel south to McKean Road

    • HUB Parking Deck

    • Yellow J (Atherton Hall)

    • Yellow N (College Avenue in front of Health and Human Development)

    • Red H (Noll Lab)

    • Green C (Waring Commons)

    • Red K (vehicles will be able to exit west through the 101 N. Atherton St. Building parking lot to travel northbound on Atherton Street)

Fraser Road will be open to Curtin Road so those with permit holders at Old Main, Brown B (Pond Lab), Brown E (Sparks Building) and Brown A (Willard, Reber and Deike buildings) can exit as normal before 5:30 p.m. Vehicles parked in the Reber and Deike sections of Brown A can access Fraser Road by traveling north between Willard and Steidle.

To leave after the parade begins, motorists should use Pollock Road to Fraser Road, then drive north on Fraser to exist onto Curtin Road.

Finally, the majority of CATA bus routes will have changes made from about 5-9 p.m. Friday.

The following spots will not have any service during the parade:

    • Curtin Road: Pattee Transit Center, Pavilion Theatre, Visual Arts Building, East Halls, Natatorium, IM Building, Shields Building, Bryce Jordan Ticket Center and Stadium West Parking

    • Burrowes Road: All stops

    • Porter Road: Beaver Stadium, Athletic Administration, Jordan East Parking and Medlar Field
