Auburn University is the latest state college to announce the closing of its Office of Inclusion and Diversity, reports AL.com’s Rebecca Griesbach. Now five institutions have made or announced the move, just months after a new state law was signed by Gov. Kay Ivey that bans DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) programs. The law requires that colleges be in compliance with the law by Oct. 1.

Alabama gets 7th Safe Haven Baby Box in Jasper; boxes allow anonymous, secure surrender of infants
Alabama’s newest Safe Haven Baby Box is now in place in Jasper, state Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Reed announced Wednesday. Safe Haven Baby Boxes are designed to allow the safe surrender of an infant, anonymously and with no questions asked. The idea is to provide a life-saving alternative for a desperate parent who might otherwise abandon an infant in an unsafe place.
