CENTREVILLE — A standing ovation filled the Liberty Building honoring the retirement of long-serving executive assistant to the Queen Anne’s County’s Commissioners Margie Houck May 28.

Houck was lauded for her dedication and outstanding service to the community for over 30 years, beginning her journey in 1991 as a part-time receptionist and rising as a typist, clerk and executive assistant, commission President Jim Moran said.

“Miss Margie’’ as she is known was proud to serve the county residents and enjoyed sharing her exceptional skills as she worked with commissioners, employees, welcoming outside agencies and hosting visiting dignitaries, he said.

“Your loyalty to the county and your commitment to the county, ladies and gentlemen, you can‘t ask for anything more than that,” Moran said.

“It has been a true pleasure,” Houck said.

The commissioners expressed their gratitude for years of dedication and wished her the best toward a well-deserved and earned retirement.

Although Houck’s official retirement is Sept. 1, Houck has acquired so much time off that May 28 was her last commissioner meeting, Moran said.

Passing the torch, Stephanie Jarrell now serves as executive assistant.
