Meet the Hayward ‘bog pushers’
Early this summer, a 200-ton peat bog sprouting mature, 40-foot Tamarack pine trees was blocking a waterway in the Lake Chippewa Flowage in northern Wisconsin. The bog — inaccurately known as an island — was lodged near a bridge, effectively splitting the 15,300 acre lake in two. If the bog remains in place, boats can’t cross from one side of the bridge to the other. It had to be moved.

POLK COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU) - Authorities have named the man who died in a Polk Co. crash that happened on Monday. According to an update from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, on July 1 at about 11:36 a.m., 72-year-old Bradley Niemann from Baldwin, Wis., died in a two-vehicle crash on Monday on State Highway 63 north of 50th Avenue. Niemann was the driver of a passenger car struck by an SUV when the SUV crossed the centerline.
